Steps to Reintegration
The following is a three-step approach to reintegrating an
alcohol or drug abuser into society. A person can follow these steps without
endorsing a particular denominational belief.
1. Repentance: I have reached a point in my life
where I realize that the things I have done are wrong, and I want to change.
I confess that the way I have lived my life is wrong, and I need help.
Starting right now, I will lay down the things that I know to be wrong, and
try to do the right things. I will also associate myself with the right
friends.
2. Restitution: Now that I have seen my wrongs,
I will apologize for as many as possible. I will make things right with
others.
3. Reintegration: Now that I have done all that
I know to be right, I will become involved in support groups where I can
help others while helping myself. By my interaction with others in a
supportive atmosphere, I can be healed emotionally and grow spiritually. I
will seek to maintain my repentance and restitution through striving to be a
positive member of society and a good citizen.
